Network Outage

Category: System Status & Maintenance (Public)

Type: Incident

Immediate Actions:

  1. In the campus building, attempt to access a website (such as lakelandcollege.edu) on a wired or wireless device. Result: If the page does not load, continue to next step.
  2. Check a second device (laptop or mobile) connected to Lake Land Wi-Fi or a wired network in the same location. Result: If the second device also cannot access the internet, a broader outage may be occurring.
  3. Attempt both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) connections if available in the room. Result: If neither connection type works, continue to the next step.
  4. Record the building name and room number where the outage is occurring. Result: Accurate location data is available for IT response.
  5. Note the approximate time the network issue started. Result: IT staff can correlate outage timing with system events.
  6. Report the outage immediately to the Help Desk, including the building, room, and test results. Result: IT teams can begin the investigation and restoration.
  7. Immediate escalation is required when multiple devices cannot access the network within a building or campus.
