Frequently Asked Question

All the printers are down, what do I do?
Last Updated about a month ago

Printing System Down

Category: Printing & Labs (Public)

Type: Incident

Immediate Actions:

1. On a campus computer in a lab, office, or classroom, send a test print to a known Lake Land printer. Result: If no output is produced and the job does not print, continue to the next step.

2. In the same location, send a test print to a second nearby campus printer. Result: If multiple printers do not produce output, a broader outage may be occurring.

Containment:

1. Record the building name, room number, and printer names where the issue is occurring. Result: Accurate location and device data are available for IT investigation.

2. Identify if the issue is limited to one room or occurring across multiple areas. Result: Scope of the outage (localized vs campus-wide) is established.

3. Notify the Help Desk immediately with all collected details. Result: IT staff can begin coordinated response and service restoration.

Escalate:

- Multiple printers across different buildings or areas fail to print test jobs

- Users report campus-wide inability to print

- Print jobs are not reaching any printers despite successful submission
