Frequently Asked Question

How do I access my VM in a web browser when USB support is not needed?
Last Updated about a month ago

VM HTML Access / Browser Access Without USB Support
Type: Walkthrough

Steps:

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://viewportal.lakelandcollege.edu
  2. On the right side of the page, select VMware Horizon View HTML Access.
  3. At the computer login screen, enter your VM credentials:
    • Username: the first part of your Lake Land email address before the @ symbol
    • Example: if your email is jdoe1234@lakelandcollege.edu, your username is jdoe1234
    • Password: your 6-digit birthday in MMDDYY format, unless you have already changed your computer password
    • Domain: STDNT
  4. If you are connecting from home, complete the Microsoft sign-in and MFA prompt when it appears.
  5. For the Microsoft sign-in page, enter:
    • Username: your full Lake Land College email address
    • Password: your HUB/Canvas password
  6. If you have never set up MFA before, follow the prompts to choose a method such as an authenticator app or text message code.
  7. After sign-in completes, open the VM you need.
  8. Store classwork in your personal U:\ drive if you are a student or staff member using a student VM.
  9. Remember that files left in a student U:\ drive are deleted at the end of each semester. This does not apply to staff U:\ drives.
  10. If you need the original online visual walkthrough, open: https://hub.lakelandcollege.edu/external/pages/vm-html-access-no-usb-support-student

Observe:

  • If the user can open VMware Horizon View HTML Access, sign in, complete MFA, and access the needed VM → success
  • If the user cannot complete sign-in, MFA, or open the VM → continue

Escalate if:

  • The user cannot reach https://viewportal.lakelandcollege.edu
  • VMware Horizon View HTML Access does not open
  • The VM computer login does not accept the student username, birthday password, or STDNT domain
  • The Microsoft login or MFA prompt fails
  • The user changed phones and cannot access MFA on the new device
  • The user has any other login issue and needs Helpdesk assistance at 217-234-5261 Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm
